The 14 Best Places to Get Tacos in the Sacramento Area
It’s taco time! There are so many creative and flavorful tacos in the area, and it’s hard to narrow down a list of who serves the absolute best. That’s why we turned to YOU to answer the question: Who serves the best tacos in the Sacramento area? Several of you responded on Facebook, which helped us create this list, featuring a few of our favorites and yours.
Established in 1997, El Azteca Taqueria is the first taqueria restaurant in West Roseville. They create authentic and flavorful Mexican dishes using only the freshest and finest ingredients. Choose from a variety of corn tacos, each of which are around $3 each. The carne asada, chorizo, and carnitas tacos should not be missed!
This eclectic eatery in North Oak Park is a taco oasis. Plus, it’s a great place to grab a margarita! Their farm-to-fork menu at La Venadita features an array of options, including plenty of delicious tacos to choose from — like the pescado taco with battered and fried fish, chili aioli, cabbage, jalapeño, cilantro, and lime. Or the vegetariano, with mushrooms, rajas, whole pintos, cheese, jalapeño salsa, and queso fresco.
At both locations in Elk Grove and Southeast Sacramento, La Favorita Taqueria is serving up some of the best tacos in the region. At this counter-serve eatery, you choose your meat (asada, pastor, carnitas or pollo), then select a super taco, crispy taco, or a taco salad. Or you can instead opt for a vegetarian taco! Jax of Jax Chronicles blog (one of our favorite local bloggers!) recommends ordering pico de gallo and some fresh guacamole as well.

Dating back to 1954, Jimboy’s Tacos is a Sacramento-based Mexican-style chain and franchise with nearly 40 locations throughout the region. Wherever you live in the area, it’s likely you can easily access Jimboy’s and their delicious tacos. This is, after all, the signature item that started it all. The tacos are created with a stone-ground corn tortilla grilled to perfection, filled with your choice of seasoned meats, freshly shredded cheese, crisp lettuce, and a dusting of their signature parmesan cheese.
Fortaleza is one of the newest additions to the Fair Oaks dining scene, as they opened their doors at the start of 2018. But this sophisticated Mexican eatery has already hit the ground running, serving an exceptional array of authentic dishes and margaritas in a classy setting. You can order a taco plate, which comes with your choice of two tacos for $9.50 or three tacos for $12.50. Among the usual contenders, you’ll find an octopus taco with butter sautéed octopus, shredded cabbage, avocado, and verde salsa.

With eight total votes, Chando’s was by far the most-recommended taco destination on our Facebook poll. At each of its locations, this window-serve eatery serves arguably the most authentic Tijuana-style Mexican food in the area. Craft your taco with your choice of their signature meat selection, topped with fresh cilantro, delicious diced onions, creamy guacamole, and tangy salsa.
For over 20 years, Tres Hermanas has been a popular destination for tacos and delicious Mexican food and drinks in the Midtown neighborhood. The menu features an array of authentic Northern Mexican food, including a variety of tacos, mostly served on a combination plate with rice and beans and your choice of the soup of the day or a salad. Enjoy your selection in their cozy interior or on the airy outdoor patio!

Nixtaco Mexican Kitchen is a chef-driven restaurant serving cuisine from Northeastern Mexico in the heart of Roseville. Combining original flavors with regional recipes, Maria’s Cantina in Woodland is a must-visit during your quest for exceptional tacos in the region. The Cantina seeks to build upon the world’s great regional Latin recipes one ingredient and one method at a time by blending Old World traditions with new world flavors. Mezcal Grill is a cornerstone in the Natomas community. The restaurant interior perfectly reflects the cuisine they serve — modern meets classic. Mezcal is known for their modern interpretation of classic dishes, and insistence on only using high-quality, fresh ingredients. You can order their tacos for dine-in or carry-out. At just $2.39 a piece, their simple Taco Mexicano is made with a soft corn tortilla, your choice of meat, chopped onions, cilantro and salsa.

This family-owned taco truck specializes in traditional Mexican guisados served on a made-to-order corn tortilla. Guisados are stewed or braised dishes made from market-fresh ingredients and are typically found in traditional Mexican households. Chef and owner, Alexander Mishkin, strives to take advantage of the abundance of farm-fresh ingredients the Sacramento region has to offer to recreate the familial flavors of each dish. You can track down the truck at a number of events in the area or make the tacos come to you by having Masa Guiseria cater your next event!

Located in the heart of historic Folsom, this fairly new taqueria serves some of the best tacos in the region. The tacos here are quite hefty, as they are topped with more ingredients than your typical street tacos. Regulars love the carne asada and chicken tacos, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the choices on their menu!
Since opening their doors in the summer of 2017, Midtown’s Cantina Alley has received a number of prestigious awards, including the “Best New Restaurant” by Sacramento News & Review. And the accolades are well-deserved, as Cantina Alley delivers an authentic Mexican experience with traditional dishes, inventive cocktails, and a lively environment. Their simple menu offers a number of delicious tacos, including taco arrachera, a baja fish taco, al pastor taco, and more.
