10 Father’s Day Events in the Sacramento Area 2018
Father’s Day is coming up! We are so thankful for all the amazing dads, grandfathers and father figures in our midst who constantly sacrifice their time, energy — and sometimes sleep — for their families. There are so many events on the calendar designed to celebrate dad, from car shows to county fairs, and everything in between. Take a look at these Sacramento area events happening on Father’s Day if you’re looking for fun things to do with the whole family!
June 14–17 | Nevada County Fairgrounds, Grass Valley

Head to the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley for a weekend filled with non-stop excitement at the Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival. Hear from a number of talented headliners, including the Del McCoury Band, Balsam Range, Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, The Grascals, Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike, and much more. Plus, enjoy delicious food, beer, wine, vendor booths and more activities for all ages. Purchase tickets in advance for this exciting Father’s Day event celebrating dads, and of course, bluegrass music!
June 14–17 | El Dorado County Fairgrounds, Placerville

The El Dorado County Fair has been an annual tradition in Placerville since 1859. Each Father’s Day, hundreds gather at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds for a weekend filled with activities for all ages, including a livestock auction, lots of music and entertainment, carnival rides and games, and of course, plenty of food and refreshments to choose from. The fair is offering a special Father’s Day Package for June 17, available during presale only. The package, valid on Father’s Day from noon to 10 p.m., features a Father’s Day t-shirt, one general and one youth admission ticket, and one unlimited ride wristband. Fathers wearing their special shirt get in for free on Sunday!
June 15–17 | Downtown Davis

Davis Music Fest is returning to the streets of downtown Davis with three days of music spanning the entire weekend. Experience a variety of genres on various stages throughout downtown showcasing local, regional and touring artists. It’s almost like a miniature SXSW taking place in a single weekend for a wonderful cause. Proceeds will be donated to the Davis School Arts Foundation, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to raise money for art and music education in the Davis public schools. Tickets for the festival cost $35.
June 17 10 a.m.–12 p.m. | California Automobile Museum
On the third Sunday of each month, the California Automobile Museum hosts Downtown Sunday Drives. Go on a leisurely joy drive in a vintage car cruising by various landmarks throughout Sacramento. Rides are completely free with admission to the museum, but donations are certainly welcome!
June 17 11 a.m. | Sacramento RiverTrain

The Sacramento RiverTrain has a special train excursion planned for Father’s Day. The 2.5-hour Great Train Robbery will give dad a taste of the Old West with a leisurely train ride featuring a live Wild West show, scenic views and more, culminating with a BBQ buffet at Elkhorn Park in West Sacramento. Purchase your tickets (choose from three options — Coach, First Class or Executive Class) and hop on board the train at 11 a.m. for a fun and memorable Father’s Day experience.
June 17 | Crocker Art Museum

Artsy dads may want to escape the sun’s rays with a visit to the Crocker Art Museum. On the third Sunday of each month, the museum allows you to pay what you wish! Explore the many diverse collections and exhibitions at this vibrant art museum in the heart of the city. And with their pay-what-you-wish admission on Father’s Day, you can get the whole family in for a discounted price!

This exclusive event is a must-do for zoo members! Enjoy a special members only American BBQ at the zoo, featuring a menu of pulled pork sandwiches, ¼ rack of BBQ ribs, hot dogs, pasta salad, chips and cookies. Enjoy your meal under the giant redwood tree at Hornbill Haven, try your hand at some lawn games, and join in on other activities. Plus, explore the zoo with the family after the BBQ and visit with some of the zoo’s best animal dads. Members must sign in to purchase tickets. Consider becoming a member and making this your first event at the beloved Sacramento Zoo!
June 17 1:30 p.m. | Effie Yeaw Nature Center, Carmichael

Bring dad to Fathers and Feathers to visit with some of the Effie Yeaw Nature Center’s feathered residents. Learn about what makes the birds so special and how they became educational ambassadors for the center. This is a free program suitable for all ages, although donations are gratefully accepted. Space is limited and sign-ups take place the day of the event, so it is advised that you arrive 30 minutes before the event starts to sign up. There is a $5 per car entrance fee into the Ancil Hoffman County Park, but parking is free for members.
June 17 Varying Times | Hornblower River Cruises

Take in city views from a different perspective this Father’s Day. Cruise along the Sacramento River, enjoying a one-hour Hornblower Father’s Day River Cruise, featuring a narration of the nature and history of the Sacramento River in a fun, relaxing environment.
Cruises take off from the L Street Dock in Old Sacramento at 10:30 a.m., 12, 1:30, and 3 p.m. on Father’s Day, but you must arrive 15 minutes early (plus, it is recommended to purchase tickets ahead of time online) to ensure spots on the boat!
All Day Sunday, June 17 | Funderland Amusement Park
