Things To Do in the Charming Town of Loomis, CA
Loomis is a quaint and family-oriented community nestled in the Sierra foothills just northeast of Sacramento. Established in 1850 and incorporated in 1984, Loomis retains its rural character and charm with a historic downtown, spacious residential lots, and woodlands with natural streams and rolling hillsides. While South Placer County is one of the fastest-growing areas in California, Loomis and its surrounding land has managed to retain its rural and laid-back atmosphere.
Loomis and the nearby communities of Penryn and Newcastle boast a friendly, old-fashioned spirit. But residents may easily access the amenities in the heart of Sacramento from Loomis, which is nestled along the I-80 corridor just 30 minutes from the city. However, there are so many alluring small-town attractions tucked in this charming community. Plus, the area boasts a myriad of recreational opportunities, from the sparkling Folsom Lake to rolling hillsides with trails for biking and hiking. Take a look at the many surprises in store in the alluring small town of Loomis!

Nestled in an airy greenhouse at High-Hand Nursery, High-Hand Cafe has a bright and casual atmosphere. Dine amongst lush greenery and flowers while you enjoy breakfast or lunch. The menu at High-Hand Cafe incorporates farm-fresh local ingredients and recipes made by hand.
LBB Gastropub & Smokehouse is a neighborhood favorite for its fun and inviting atmosphere, excellent sandwiches, burgers and various entrees, and its wide selection of craft beers. After all, the gastropub is run by Loomis Basin Brewing Company!
Operating out of a tiny building with a walk-up window for ordering, Messy’s Tacos & Treats is a modern, authentic taqueria with a great lineup of tacos and — you guessed it — treats, like churros and shakes. Messy’s also serves burritos, bowls, quesadillas, nachos and more!
This locally owned, old-fashioned burger and shake shop has become a community tradition. Taylor’s offers more than 300 (yes, three-zero-zero!) shakes and counting, plus a number of burgers and various appetizers.
Explore the Great Outdoors
Loomis is perfectly positioned for residents and visitors to explore the great outdoors with ease. Folsom Lake is a popular destination for swimming, fishing, boating and other water activities. One of the nearest access points is Granite Bay Main Beach at Folsom Lake SRA. Loomis is also equipped with a number of community parks and natural areas, including Loomis Basin Community Park (North and South) and the Traylor Ranch Bird Sanctuary and Nature Reserve. Golfers frequent Indian Creek Country Club just down the road or Lincoln Hills Golf Club, a 36-hole facility situated just northwest of town in Lincoln.
Loomis is dotted with a number of local businesses. In fact, Loomis has very few big-box stores or chains in sight, which preserves its unique small-town spirit.
The Feathered Nest is especially near and dear to our hearts — and not just because it’s focused on all things home! This interior design brand was founded in 2017 by Shannon Ertel and Debbie Massie of Lyon’s very own Debra Massie Team. In early 2018, they opened this gorgeous 10,000-square-foot brick-and-mortar shop filled with home furnishings, decor and other interior design needs.

The dog-friendly tasting room is paired with Flower Farm Cafe, which offers a great lunch menu.
Rock Hill Winery began in Sonoma County two generations ago and was named after a volcanic hillside vineyard with hundreds of feet of dry stacked rock walls.
